According to the World Governing Council on Water Bodies, water is considered safe for consumption if it meets the following criteria:

✅ Odorless – It should have no smell.
✅ Clear and Clean – Free from visible solid particles.
✅ Non-Toxic – It must not contain harmful chemicals or toxins.
✅ Mineral-Rich – Should contain essential minerals for health.
✅ Tasteless – Pure water has no distinct taste.

Meanwhile, UNICEF outlines three key requirements for water to be considered safe for drinking:

1️⃣ Accessibility – It must be available on the premises.
2️⃣ Availability – Water should be accessible for at least 12 hours daily.
3️⃣ Purity – Free from harmful contaminants like E. coli, arsenic, or fluoride.

The Global Water Crisis

UNICEF estimates that a staggering 2.2 billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water. Even more concerning, 40% of these individuals live in Sub-Saharan Africa, meaning a significant percentage of people in this region rely on unsafe drinking water.

In 2021, cholera caused more deaths than COVID-19 in some areas, largely due to the consumption of contaminated water. This highlights the urgent need for clean and safe drinking water solutions to prevent further health crises.
